SEEKING A DIAGNOSIS
EARLY WARNING SIGNS
Many of the characteristic early stages of a dementing illness are difficult to pinpoint as signs and symptoms of a developing disease. We all forget or misplace things on occasion. Sometimes stressful situations can cause us to act a little out of normal character. However, if some of the warning signs listed below appear in combination or persistently, it is worth seeking professional assistance.
- persistent recent memory loss that affects daily living
- difficulty performing a familiar job or skill
- problems with language - difficulty finding the right word or using words inappropriately
- difficulties with abstract thinking
- confusion regarding time, people, places or events
- poor or decreased judgement
- misplacing things
- changes in mood or behaviour or changes in personality
- loss of motivation.
