SEEKING A DIAGNOSIS
EARLY WARNING SIGNS

Many of the characteristic early stages of a dementing illness are difficult to pinpoint as signs and symptoms of a developing disease. We all forget or misplace things on occasion. Sometimes stressful situations can cause us to act a little out of normal character. However, if some of the warning signs listed below appear in combination or persistently, it is worth seeking professional assistance.

  • persistent recent memory loss that affects daily living
  • difficulty performing a familiar job or skill
  • problems with language - difficulty finding the right word or using words inappropriately
  • difficulties with abstract thinking
  • confusion regarding time, people, places or events
  • poor or decreased judgement
  • misplacing things
  • changes in mood or behaviour or changes in personality
  • loss of motivation.
